Commissioning

When you decide to install a fire alarm, there are three crucial aspects to consider: the design, installation, and commissioning.

After your fire alarm system installation is completed, the system is commissioned and a formal handover occurs, which includes the presentation of all applicable certificates and instructions on how to operate the panel.

Commissioning a fire alarm system entails going through a rigorous step-by-step checklist to guarantee compliance with the British Standard, as well as passing a series of tests to assure dependable and trouble-free operation. According to BS5839-1, fire alarm system commissioning is the process of thoroughly evaluating an installed system to ensure it performs appropriately in line with the recommendations of the standard and project specification.

M&G Fire Protection commissions all fire alarms in strict accordance with BS5839-1:2017 and manufacturer requirements. The commissioning phase guarantees that all equipment functions properly and that the installation meets the design specifications. The commissioning engineer should ensure that everything is in working order with the system and perform the handover so you know how to utilise it. Upon completion of the commissioning, a BS5839 commissioning certificate will be issued, which the building user should keep.

At M&G Fire Protection, our engineering team is comprised of time-served, highly experienced specialists who are well-versed in the nuances of British Standard to ensure that your system is compatible. Our engineering staff has all been involved in programming fire alarm panels with complicated cause and effect on a variety of systems; with this in mind, you can be confident that we can meet any programming needs you may have in addition to the obligatory tests.

In case of an emergency, zone plans will be developed and placed close to the fire alarm panel to provide fire services with a layout of the building and zones, reducing search time and giving them a better chance of putting the fire out faster.

If your fire alarm has been installed by a non-fire specialist we may still be able to commission and certificate your system. Please get in touch with our friendly team for further details.
